US PC sales up 10.1% in Q1 2006

The NPD Group said that the total of desktop and notebook PCs sold in Q1 2006 was about 6.4 mln units, an increase of 10.1% over Q1 2005. The average price of a PC fell from $982 to $902, reducing the total dollar sales growth to just under 2%. Unit sales of notebook PCs increased 29.2%, with the average price at $1,093. Dollar volume of notebook PC sales increased by 12% to $3.3 bln. Desktop PC sales continued to decline by about 10% to $2.5 bln. Unit volumes fell by 2.6%. The average selling price of a desktop was $734.
