US sales of software, hardware and accessories rose 19% to $12.5 bln in 2006, according to NPD Group. Nintendo DS sold 1.6 mln units in December 2006, and has sold 9.2 mln since its launch in 2004. Sony PlayStation 2 came in second, selling 1.4 mln units in December 2006 amid widespread shortages of its successor, the PS3, which sold 490,700 units in December, and 687,300 since its November launch. The Wii sold 604,200 units in December, and 1.1 mln since it was released.
