UK online advertising spending surged by more than 60% in 2004 and edged ahead of radio in terms of market share for the first time, according to the Interactive Advertising Bureau. Online ad spending in 2004 was 653.3 mln pounds ($1.2 bln). Online ads made up 3.9% of total UK ad spending, up from 2.6% in 2003, and just ahead of radio’s 3.8%.
