Top semiconductor vendors: Intel, Samsung, Texas Instruments

Intel once again was the top producer, accounting for 16.2% of all semiconductors manufactured during 2003. Samsung, again #2, accounted for 5.8% of overall semiconductor output due to strong sales of its flash memory. Texas Instruments saw its share of chip output climb to 4.9% of the market to surpass Renesas, the memory conglomerate formed from Hitachi and Mitsubishi’s DRAM (dynamic random access memory) businesses, as the #3 chip producer.
