Global SMS traffic over the 2007-2008 New Year period increased by 30% YTY. Worldwide, phone users sent 43 bln text messages to wish a happy New Year, according to Acision. In Portugal, SMS traffic almost tripled across the festive period compared to 2007 New Year. In India 220 mln mobile subscribers sent over a 1 bln text messages – a 300% increase. The Philippines saw 1.39 bln text messages from a subscriber base of just 50 mln.
