US Internet ad revenues reached $6.1 bln in Q4 2008

US Internet advertising revenues remain strong, topping $23 bln, according to Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) and PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC). Full-year 2008 revenues totaled a record $23.4 bln, exceeding 2007’s performance, itself the former record of $21.2 bln, by $2.2 bln or 10.6%. Q4 2008 revenues of $6.1 bln mark the first time the interactive advertising industry achieved, and surpassed, $6 bln in a single quarter. The figures represent a $154 mln or 2.6% increase from Q4 2007, which had revenues of $5.9 bln. This is the fifth consecutive year of record results.

$265 mln lost to Internet fraud in 2008

The Internet Crime Complaint Center said that it received more than 275,000 complaints in 2008, up from about 207,000 in 2007. The total reported dollar loss from such scams was $265 mln, or about $25 mln more than in 2007. Among those who filed complaints, men reported losing $1.69 for every dollar that women lost.

49 mln desktops to virtually hosted by 2013

The worldwide hosted virtual desktop (HVD) market will accelerate through 2013 to reach 49 mln units, up from more than 500,000 units in 2009, according to Gartner. Worldwide HVD revenue will grow from about $1.3 bln to $1.5 bln in 2009, which is less than 1% of the worldwide professional PC market, to $65.7 bln in 2013, which will be equal to more than 40% of the worldwide professional PC market. Gartner estimates that approximately 15% of current worldwide traditional professional desktop PCs will migrate to HVDs by 2014, equal to about 66 mln connected devices. US will reach double that of the worldwide average with over 18 mln connected devices. After an initial slow start, the HVD market will rally in 2010 and 2011.
