Despite the early launch of the Xbox 360, the PS3 is expected to be the leading console by the end of 2007; a combination of its huge success with the PS2 and strong publisher support will ensure Sony retains top spot. Microsoft’s new console will also fare well, accounting for around 30% of the total installed base by the end of 2010. The next-generation console market will peak in 2008, when it will generate total revenues (hardware + software) of $21.9 bln. Software revenues will continue to rise until 2010, at which point sales will reach $16.8 bln, according to Research and Markets.
