Worldwide network security appliance and software revenue continued its steady climb, rising 4% to $1 bln between Q1 2005 and Q2 2005, and is projected to grow 23% to $1.3 bln by Q2 2006, according to Infonetics Research. Annual revenue is projected to grow to $6.4 bln by 2008. Cisco leads the network security appliance and software market with 34% of worldwide revenue, Check Point is #2 with 10%, and Juniper is #3 with 8%. Enterasys, ISS, McAfee, Nokia, Nortel, SonicWALL, and Symantec are strong second-tier players for revenue market share (each with between 1% and 6% of the total market). VPN and firewall appliances and software make up 78% of total revenue, IDS/IPS make up 14%, and gateway anti-virus makes up 8%.
