Linux server revenues grew 54.6% in Q2 2004

Spending on Linux servers grew in double digits for the eighth straight quarter in Q2, according to IDC. YTY revenue grew 48.9% and unit shipments were up more than 38%. QTQ revenue was down 8.1% and unit shipments down 8.4%. A recent survey of 195 North American chief information officers (CIOs) predicts that spending on IT goods, services and staff will grow 7% next year and continue at a similar pace through 2008. Forrester claims IT budgets will increase at a similar rate of 6.4%. Linux revenue grew 54.6% in Q2 2004 and unit shipments jumped more than 61% giving the OS 9.5% of the overall market share. Unix server revenue was up 1.8% quarterly, while Windows server revenue grew 13.2% and unit shipments up 25.3%.
