Salaries in the information technology sector went up by an average of 19% in 2004 with senior level professionals gaining the most, according to Dataquest-IDC survey. Hewlett-Packard-India was the top payer among Indian IT companies, followed by Cadence and Philips. Salaries of IT professionals with over 10 years experience increased by 26%. Salaries of those with 5-10 years experience went up 24% during 2004 to Rs 670,000, while in the 2-5 years category salaries went up by 11% to Rs 420,000. However, salaries of freshers in the industry registered a significant 12% drop to Rs 260,000. The survey also found that despite emerging as the highest paymaster, H-P scored low on employee satisfaction.
