The overall Ethernet switch market grew 9.9% in Q2 2005. Almost every vendor showed shipment gains for the quarter across all major segments. On a revenue basis, the market was up by 11.7%. Fast Ethernet (FE) shipments were up by 13.2%, an indication that the shift to Gigabit Ethernet (GE) may not be happening as quickly as some expected. GE port shipments grew 18.1%, with both fixed and modular configuration switches increasing. 10 GE port shipments were up strongly at 40.3% for the quarter after declining -24.9% during Q1 2005. Shipments of 10 GE modular configuration switches were strong, showing growth of 45.9%, while 10 GE fixed configurations declined -0.6%, InStat reports.
