Following a slower Q2 2006 impacted by the World Cup and channel inventory clearance, EMEA PC shipments returned to healthier levels in Q3 2006, beating expectations with a YTY growth of 11.2%, according to IDC. Demand for notebooks continued unabated in the consumer space, fueled by very attractive price points, active marketing campaigns, and a buoyant back-to-school season. Consumer desktop sales proved disappointing, however, despite aggressive promotions in the retail channel, while commercial sales remained soft as expected in the absence of major refresh cycles.
