Consumer electronics spending in Japan up 7.3% in 2005

Consumer electronics shipments in Japan in 2005 increased 7.3% from 2004 to 2,592 bln yen. Shipments of video equipment grew 5.5% to 1,629.3 bln yen, the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association said. Shipments of audio equipment climbed 22.7% to 245.6 bln yen. Shipments of car electronics expanded 6.7% to 717.7 bln yen. Shipments of video equipment increased 11.8% to 160.6 bln yen. Of them, plasma TV shipments jumped 75.0% and LCD TV shipments jumped 33.2%. Shipments of car electronics expanded 8.9% to 78.5 bln yen, registering the 22nd straight rise, but those of audio equipment slumped 9.4% to 15.8 bln yen.
