Asian PC market up 13% in Q3 2004

PC shipments in Asia excluding Japan rose 13% to 8.9 mln units in Q3 2004, with multinationals such as Dell and IBM gaining market share, according to IDC. During the quarter, Lenovo, China’s biggest PC maker, retained its place as the region’s biggest PC seller with 13.1% of the market, up slightly from 12.9% a year earlier. HP was second, boosting its marketshare to 10% from 9.3% a year earlier. IBM was third, with marketshare rising to 7.7% from 6.6%; while Dell was fourth, with market share rising to 7.1% from 6.2%.
