Asia-Pacific mobile gaming market to generate $1.3 bln in 2008

According to IDC, the wireless gaming market in Asia-Pacific, excluding Japan, is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 40%, from $237.4 mln last year to $1.3 bln in 2008. Korea is the largest cell phone gaming market in Asia-Pacific due to its mature third-generation mobile networks, accounting for 73% of the industry’s revenue in 2003. China ranked second at 20.1% and Australia a distant third at 2.6%. IDC expects these rankings to remain consistent over the next four years. However, Korea’s share of regional wireless gaming revenue is expected to drop to 41.7% by 2008, with China trailing closely behind at 40.3%.
