With about 61% yYTY subscriber growth, Africa affords a great opportunity for low cost cellular phone sales, as most citizens of different African countries do not own a cell phone, and many have no telecom services at all. Eastern Europe has the second highest year to year subscriber growth (~45%) closely followed by the Middle East and Latin America (the latter region shows strong growth even without considering Brazil). However, those numbers need to be looked at carefully. While a 61% growth in Africa represents an increase of about 55 mln subscribers, the forecast 25% growth in Asia Pacific represents an increase of about 175 mln subscribers, In-Stat says.
