TeleGeography reports that Brazil had 68.6 mln mobile phone subscribers in the end of March 2005, for a YTY increase of 40%. That amounts to about 37% of the total population. 80% of Brazilian mobile customers were pre-paid, as opposed to having provider contracts. Operators were split between GSM (38%), TDMA (32%), and CDMA (30%).
