66% of P2P music searches include only song name

BigChampagne researched the search patterns of the peer-to-peer networks users and Digital Music News reports on the results of the survey in P2P Charts & Data section. About two-thirds (66%) of all searches are song-specific. Artist-specific searches trail far behind, with only 27% of the query volume. Album-focused searches are the smallest category, with only 7% of the volume. Most users actually combine artist and song information into one string, though the presence of a song title indicates that the artist name is being used as a qualifier. A closer look reveals that “pure” searches involving just a dedicated song title or artist name are in the minority.
