66% of online adults have used general search engines in the past 12 months for search information about health and wellness topics, according to iCrossing. Widespread usage of search engines does not extend to health-specific engines such as Healia, Medstory, Fealth, Kosmix and Healthline, which were cited by only 15% of respondents as resources for locating health information. A third tier of resources is composed of disease association Web sites, such as that of the American Cancer Society, health care provider sites, the online encyclopedia Wikipedia, and news sites like CNN.com/health.
