55% of US teens have a social networking profile

As of the end of 2006, 55% of online teens had a profile on a social network, according to Pew Internet and American Life Report. A much smaller percentage of adult internet users (20%) reported an online profile. Older online girls ages 15-17 are more likely to have used social networking sites and have an online profile; 70% of older girls have used an online social network compared with 54% of older boys, and 70% of older girls have created an online profile, while only 57% boys have done so.
