54 mln mobile phone subscribers in Mexico

Mexican youth taking advantage of lower cost of ownership contribute to a 50% rise in subscribers to 54 mln and a $850 mln increase in data revenues by 2007, Research and Markets reports. The average age of new subscribers will fall to 25 in 2007 (a decline of 3 years since 2005). Growing numbers of young prepaid subscribers will reduce ARPU 10% to $13.4 pcm by 2007. However, falling voice ARPU is offset by the growing popularity of texting. By 2007 the average Mexican will spend $2.1 a month on messaging.
