34% of companies do not forbid personal apps on corporate PCs

34% of companies surveyed by Bit9 do not have a policy in place that forbids downloading non-business applications on company-owned computers. Often running outside of IT’s knowledge or control, non-business applications such as instant messaging (IM) programs or media players run undetected by IT organizations and are difficult to detect and remove. 34% percent of respondents also had a security event (i.e. virus, spyware, keylogger, phishing attack, etc.) within the past six months, 23% of which were viruses, even with anti-virus technology in place.
