The Western European digital camera market continued to grow in 2004, with total shipments in the region reaching over 25 mln units, which represents 58% growth compared to 2003. While IDC anticipates continued growth through 2005, the market is now showing signs of calming from the annual growth explosion witnessed since the technology was introduced to the market. This first sign of market maturity was seen in Q4 2004, when shipment growth slowed to 30% over Q4 2003, in a period that includes the Christmas rush and is the busiest time for the market.
Canon has now lead the western European market for three calendar years, having captured the #1 spot in Western Europe in 2002. Canon has a breadth of products in the market, covering the entry level to the advanced amateur and professional photographer.
