$20.5 bln worth of semiconductors sold in August 2006

Semiconductor sales worldwide surged to a monthly record of $20.5 bln in August 2006, fueled by higher demand for memory chips used in PCs and mobile gadgets. The figure was more than 10% higher than the $18.6 bln reported in August 2005, and a slight increase from the $20.1 bln reported in July 2006, Semiconductor Industry Association reports.
