20% of Spaniards play video games

Over 20% of Spaniards play video games, according to Tercer Mercado Video (TVM) magazine and Screen Digest. From a population of 41.8 mln, around 8.5 mln count video game playing as one of their leisure pursuits. However, roughly 25% of gamers surveyed are classified as heavy video game users – those who play for more than 4 hours a week. PC and console gaming proved equally popular, as 13% of the population said that they played either one format or the other, whilst just 4% played both. Sony PlayStation 2 is by far the most popular console format, with 67% of the total market share.

Men make up the majority of gamers in Spain, outnumbering female gamers by two to one. The distribution of Spanish gamers by age appears to confirm the theory that there are more adults playing video games than children.
