$2 bln of mobile phones sold in Russia in 2003

The Russian mobile handset market continued to surge in 2003, with deliveries increasing by more than 89% to nearly 17 million phones, worth more than $2 billion, according to a new IDC study. While camera phones didn’t sell as well as manufacturers would have hoped, color screens proved very popular, accounting for nearly a quarter of handset sales, up from less than one in 40 in 2002, as reported by Tekrati.
