IDC says PC market will grow 14.2% in 2004, 10.5% in 2005

IDC has raised its 2004 forecast for global personal computer sales growth to 14.2% from 13.5%, driven by high commercial demand. IDC said it now expected 176.5 mln PCs to be shipped this year, after growth in commercial PC shipments reached 17.2% in Q2 – its highest level since mid-1999. However, the group lowered its 2005 forecast slightly to 10.5% growth, with projections for percentage growth in future years in single figures. IDC said it expected growth in the consumer PC market to slow to 9% in the second half of this year from 20% in second half of 2003.
