Global mobile phone shipments down 12.8% in Q1 2007
Global mobile-phone shipments in Q1 2007 fell by 12.8% QTQ, declining to 253 mln units, down from 290.1 mln in the Q4 2006. Such a decline is typical following the peak Q4 buying season, as evidenced by the fact that four out of the Top-5 mobile-phone makers experienced a sequential decrease in unit shipments. However, Samsung bucked the trend with a 9.1% increase in shipments to 34.8 mln units during the period, up from 31.9 mln units in Q4 2006. Samsung was the only Top-5 phone brand to increase its unit shipments on a sequential basis in Q1 2007, iSuppli says.
