Asia-Pacific external disk storage up 11.6% in Q1 2006
According to IDC, the entry-level and midrange segments of the external disk storage market in the Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) region saw strong growth in Q1 2006. The entry-level and midrange segments accounted for 27.8% and 48.6% of the market respectively, compared to 19.8% and 47.5% during the same period in 2005. IDC notes that Q1 2006 saw a robust 11.6% growth from Q1 2005, reaching $484.7 mln. This quarter also grew faster than Q2 and Q3 2004. However, the market recorded a 13.1% decline from Q4 2005. The demand for new external storage capacity, on the other hand, did not shrink in tandem with falling quarterly revenue. IDC notes that total shipments of new external storage capacity in the region for Q1 2006 amounted to 50,218TBs, growing over every quarter in 2004 and almost twofold from Q1 2005.
