Harris Interactive surveyed US adults who have filed or plan to file a tax return for 2005. 39% didn’t or won’t do anything to minimize their tax bill. For the majority of people who did take steps to minimize their tax bill, contributing to charities (42%) and deducting state and local sales taxes (29%) were the most common measures. About 62% of those filing income taxes this year say they expect a refund from the Internal Revenue Service. Another 22% said they expect to pay money to the IRS, and 16% said they weren’t sure.
