14 mln MP3 players sold in Asia-Pacific in 2005

MP3 player market continued to enjoy phenomenal growth across Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) (APEJ) in 2005, driven by demand for portable flash players. The MP3 player market in the APEJ region is expected to increase from 14 mln units in 2005 to approximately 36 mln units in 2010 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 20.8% during the forecast period. The market for flash-based portable MP3 players in APEJ is expected to grow at a CAGR of 21.3% during the forecast period. Growth in the portable flash player category is expected to be fueled by falling flash memory costs, vendor adoption of flash for multiple device storage capacities at competitive retail price points, availability of paid online music services, and growing consumer awareness of and demand for portable MP3 players. Hard drive-bases MP3 players in APEJ will grow at a CAGR of 17% during the forecast period, IDC says.
